What is included in the treatment plan?
Dr. Salama: The individualized treatment plan for each patient starts with the medical history, diagnosis, technique and methods of treatment. It also includes the priorities and goals of the therapy as well as the appropriate imaging procedures for the areas of the body to be treated. It also includes the subsequent review of the effectiveness and assessment of the sustainability of the treatment. It also includes an analysis of improvements and the effectiveness of treatments and examinations (follow-up).
What conclusions can be drawn from this?
Dr. Salama: If the treatment plan records all the data, it guarantees a meaningful overview at all times. The treatment plan also provides patients with clear guidelines that document the success of the treatment. It is just as important for initiating changes after the patient has consulted the doctor. The plan is also used for direct control and feedback of the medical measures. This includes an assessment of the results of the treatment. Flexibility is the most important thing here. Further steps and additional treatment requirements must be assessed on a case-by-case basis. New priorities often need to be set.
How does a visit to your practice begin?
Dr. Salama: At the LBCL Surgery & Vein Practice, the consultation with the patient begins with the initial evaluation and diagnosis of the disease. During the preparation and discussion of the treatment plan, the patient is informed about all treatment steps.
What happens after the treatment?
Dr. Salama: From the first day of treatment, everything relevant is recorded and documented. There is a follow-up appointment the day after the treatment to assess the situation. The next appointment follows in 10 to 14 days, where any suture material is removed and the results of the first treatment are assessed. At the same appointment, the veins are imaged using a high-end ultrasound device. Vein mapping provides an objective picture of the success of the treatment and shows where the diseased veins still need to be treated. Further appointments and additional treatments depend on the results of the examination. Thanks to repeated vein mapping, the patient is informed about the current condition of their venous system.
