Are recurrent varicose veins actually fate or preventable after all?
Dr. Salama: We know from research and thanks to scientific studies that 50 percent of patients who have varicose veins on one side will also develop varicose veins on the other side over time. One-third of patients with mild chronic venous insufficiency will also develop skin lesions over a period of one to thirteen years. The incidence of recurrent varicose veins is very high at 40 to 50 percent in five years and as high as about 70 percent after ten years.
What are the reasons for this?
Dr. Salama: The reasons are largely due to the choice of surgical technique, unidentified venous reflux sites, and iliac vein reflux. But a change in the hemodynamic status of the veins may also be responsible. For example, if the disease extends to new vein segments.Hemodynamics describes the blood flow in blood vessels , Movement or flow of blood throughout the body is dependent upon many factors.
"Among the common causes of recurrent varicose veins is the formation of new vessels and Perforator Veins."
Are there any particular risk factors?
Dr. Salama: The most common risk factors are family predisposition, a standing job, pregnancy, the pill, obesity or lack of exercise.
What can be done to prevent the recurrence of varicose veins? Dr. Salama: The best prophylaxis against recurrent varicose veins and the spread of the disease is regular check-ups. The solution to these predominant problems is mainly meticulous check-ups of the vein status. In most cases, the vein tree in both legs is viewed and evaluated with the help of color-coded Doppler examination or vein mapping.
How can you easily stop recurrent varicose veins?
Dr. Salama: At LBCL Surgery & Vein Practice, we are familiar with these problems. Recurrent varicose veins are a focus of our clinic at the Kindermann Center. We maintain an explicit and detailed follow-up plan for each of our patients. After surgery, we have regular follow-up visits at three, six, twelve and 18 months. In most cases, the extension of the disease is unavoidable in most patients, because of the nature of the disease, among several reasons and causes that play a significant role in this process.
One satisfied patient Experience !
I read an article in the magazine LEIBNITZ AKTUELL about deep veins from the LBCL surgery & vein practice of Dr. Salama in the Kindermann Center and immediately made an appointment. Dr. Salama took a lot of time to explain everything to me. The examination was very precise. Laser vein surgery was performed on both legs. It was a careful treatment without pain. The aftercare with ultrasound was also very good! It was a short healing time and the legs were immediately able to bear weight again. The success of the smooth procedure is impressive. In my opinion, Dr. Salama is an outstanding surgeon. He has a very nice and compassionate assistant in his office. Thank you very much for your warm and friendly treatment!
