COMBINED APPROACH: the LBCL Surgery & Vein Practice has recognized that many patients need a combined approach to solve their problems. The treating physician is intimately familiar with the variety of procedures available to rejuvenate the legs, allowing for optimal treatment and results.
What is the actual importance of the legs for us humans?
Dr. Salama: The legs are a very important part of our body and take the toll of gravity, heredity, photodamage, fat deposits, aging and hormonal changes. Häufig is a combination therapy needed to treat problems such as varicose veins, spider veins, excess fat, cellulite, skin laxity on the thighs and knees, or photodamage.
How huge concern are leg veins for the general population?
Dr. Salama: Unwanted leg veins affect millions of people who desire leg rejuvenation. Most who desire cosmetic improvement of telangiectasias can be treated with sclerotherapy and/or vascular laser. Pronounced varicose veins, corona phlebectatica, or significant symptoms of venous insufficiency are indications for duplex ultrasound mapping. Treatment of the saphenous reflux is important to allow treatment of the associated vessels, but it does not usually eliminate cosmetically bothersome superficial telangiectasias and reticular veins. Studies show that sclerotherapy is highly effective and confirmed sclerotherapy as the "gold standard" in the treatment of reticular veins and telangiectasias.
Is there also an alternative to sclerotherapy?
Dr. Salama: Especially for patients with needle phobia, hypercoagulable conditions or an allergy to a sclerosing agent, vascular laser therapy is an alternative to sclerotherapy for telangiectasias with a diameter of less than 2 mm. The efficacy of vascular lasers with different wavelengths has been demonstrated. Vascular laser therapy can also be combined with foam sclerotherapy.
What serves the beauty of the legs ?
Dr. Salama: In addition to the appearance of unwanted leg veins, the shape and heaviness of the legs are important aesthetic considerations. In shaping the leg, one faces many challenges such as difficult access due to curved contours, small amounts of fat, long incision healing, and long-lasting postoperative edema and swelling, among others. Liposuction under local anesthesia is a very good solution. On the market there are a number of new devices for fatauflsolution, which I use.
A combined treatment approach has been developed for cellulite treatment, targeting the dermis, adipose tissue and subcutaneous septa.
